Virginia Early Thaw

Followed by some music
caught and made aware
spirit has been trailing
and now just touched my hair.

Thoughts were going nowhere
but could be buds out there
midweek in the morning
warmth now reaching here.  

Far north still in the arctic
battling the snow
but Virginia's getting ready
to let the cold grip go. 

Everyone who lives up north
should try one time to be
here when heat starts rising up
and snow is done

leaving. 

A month before spring arrives
a perfect time to start
outdoors in the afternoon
T-shirts and shorts

come out.     

All along the mountains
and back into the sea
watch as early buds
collide with hearts

and new blue jeans. 

And song of course
the greater test
tunes we find are true. 

Sidewalk tables
nicely spaced
and great food for her too.   

Someone saved the palate
through the winter months:
hero of the taste buds
here for great service. 

When things return to normal
as we pray they will
perhaps our state
will show the way

with courtesy unchilled.
