Just Dad

Big bro the eighteen wheeler
slept next to him last night
in the Walmart parking lot
snow crunching tires

ice. 

Getting darker early
all the kids at home
driving school bus
daily

later being alone. 

Except for my large buddy
who has a nice warm cab
does this for a living
so maybe not too bad. 

Underneath the life U.S. 
is a safety net
scattered around
the parking lots

points of light
and pets.

Rise up in the morning
Sheetz nine kinds of creamer
couple donuts and a buzz
dawn and time to meet her. 

Standing in the dark somewhere
hardly can be seen
has his trusty Casio
picks her up

smiling.

After all the kids in school
back into the van
the sun has warmed it up a bit
